Women Photo Tours is a small, woman owned business founded by Amanda Bjorn in 2017. The philosophy of Women Photo Tours is grounded in using art to try to make sense of the world, attempting to break down differences through cultural exchange, and bearing witness through the practice of photography. We facilitate slow, intentional, small group travel to Cuba, Spain, Italy, and Guatemala.

Job Summary: The Trip Leader is an independent contractor role that fosters and supports the overall philosophy of Women Photo Tours. This position takes place on the ground in locations where we travel, working directly with trip participants, and closely with our community partners and collaborators. The Trip Leader works as a key support person and trip facilitator, in addition to also working behind the scenes to maintain coordination and communication for trip logistics.

We are looking for someone:

  • Who is outgoing, dynamic, and flexible.

  • Who has a passion for photography and working knowledge of both digital and film photography mediums.

  • With the ability to support new or curious photographers on their journey to better understand how to take ethical, strong, compelling photographs.

  • Who is comfortable navigating international travel independently.

  • Who has strong communication skills.

  • Have a fluency in Spanish or Italian is a plus!

  • Who has a strong desire to facilitate conversation and foster a creative environment in a group setting.

  • Feels a deep alignment with the Women Photo Tours philosophy and ethos.

Essential functions include, but are not limited to:

Pre-trip Duties:

  • Attend pre-trip planning meeting(s) with the Women Photo Tours administrative team.

  • Arrive the day before the trip starts to organize with the local guide(s), community partners and collaborators, visiting and scouting photography locations, and to ensure accommodations are ready for participant arrival.

Participant Support:

  • Facilitate arrival of participants, including taxi pickups, and provide a warm welcome upon arrival.

  • Maintain an open, welcoming, and warm attitude towards participants throughout the trip.

  • Maintain a culture where participants feel safe to ask questions, and are encouraged to take steps towards creative goals. Provide ongoing guidance, feedback to support participants with these goals.

  • Maintain consistent communication with Women Photo Tours administrative staff regarding how the trip is going and when necessary, communicate any issues that may arise in a timely manner.

Community Partners + Collaborators:

  • Maintain consistent communication with local guide(s) throughout the trip

  • Communicate with community partners and collaborators to facilitate any outings, transportation, activities, tours, meals etc… via WhatsApp

Administrative Duties:

  • Track and manage daily spending for the trip.
